Pick Your Poison, Sunday

The pain came in waves. Sometimes she'd spend most of a day feeling nothing; the next, she'd find herself in Harley's bed for hours longer than she anticipated.

It was frustrating. It made her angry. And with that anger came the urge to defy it-- and so Pam found herself back here again on a Sunday, her side stinging harshly. Weeding the Pick Your Poison garden.

She'd even opened the door, even though she intended to spend much of the day upstairs in the lab.

Caritas- Saturday night after 8:15 pm

The dates were over, the glitter was still there, the glitter lived with you now, and the night was still young. So maybe people wanted to hang at the bar for a little while. Maybe you wanted to take the date further, or maybe you just wanted to gossip or catch up with people you weren't matched with!

Either way the specials still told a story.

Over Easy, Saturday

Well, most of the glitter was gone. Raiden would take it.

"Let's keep it nice and calm today, folks. Nothing dramatic."

"No giant gummy bears made out of mayo," one of the kitchen staff muttered, and a waiter protested,

"I thought we agreed not to ever mention that again."

Specials
Quiche Lorraine
Goat Cheese Scrambled Eggs with Pesto Veggies
Pumpkin Shortcakes with Cinnamon Apples & Maple Whipped Cream

That last one was definitely someone trying to manifest Full Autumn.

Fandom Radio, Saturday, September 13

Good morning, everyone! It is I, Miss Lydia Bennet, fresh off a whole week of not having hooves or being chased by some horrible thing and here to bring you the news!

We will begin with the school, where Driver's Education practised in 'bumper cars,' whatever those are, whilst Weather & Storms learned about the small things that can have greater effects on our weather.

I've no notes for the dormitory, but a few for the town. Let's see...ah! There was an issue with banana peels at the Trooper Station, which led to Mr. Grant slipping when he brought Detective Watts his luncheon. The squirrels report he is uninjured. Miss Eleanor was consulting the cards at Plant Parenthood, and Needful Things remains reopen for business, and Dr. Quinn was learning to juggle with spoons. I must stop by there sometime to see what sort of lovely things they have.

And that is the end of my notes, so with that, dear listeners, I shall leave you and be off for a cup of tea. Farewell!

Three Minute Dates- Caritas- Saturday before 8:15 pm

Were you tired of glitter yet? Because the banner above the stage reading "WELCOME TO THREE MINUTE DATES" was covered in it. Which meant the stage was covered in a fine mist of them. Which meant there was probably some of the tables. And the bar. Not the drinks, though, they kept up with standards.

And a few minutes before 8:00, Kitty took to the stage.

"Welcome again to Three Minute Dates!" she greeted them. "If you haven't done this before, the tiles are simple. Every three minutes, we'll read off pairs of names. You sit down with them, get to know them for three minutes, and when the gong bongs, you'll move on to your next march. After five dates, if you want to talk to anyone more, hang around and chat for a while. Ready? You've got a couple minutes to sign up, then we're gonna get going."

[OCD is up! Post dates bar post will go up in the morning!

The WE ARE RE-OPEN !!! sign remained in the Needful Things window. Odds were great it would still be there in the following week, unless it happened to fall off on its own, but at least it was still sort of relevant for now.

Also, Harley was inside, trying to juggle with antique spoons.

Don't ask.

Fandom Radio, Friday, September 12, 2025

Good morning, everyone, Steve Rogers here with the news of yesterday. In classes, Tony and I re-learned how much easier baking is when you have thumbs. Our students made cookies! Raiden's Food Adventures explored New Orleans. Arden presented Erarmus with a sweet tea snoball and a rundown on school trips before they confused each other talking about djinn, which I'm definitely pronouncing incorrectly, and Illyana wanted to know if Arden needed to-go bags for hauling souvenirs back to Fandom. Liliana did introductions now that no one looked like a pony, then did short term and long-term planning for zombie invasions. Liliana then held office hours, with Erasmus coming by to get her phone number so that his father could call--sounds dire--and Ignis coming by with lunch from New Orleans, which sounds delicious.

In town, the museum was open and so was the Photo Hut and Pixie Dust. The Devil's Nest was featuring cyser, and Supper Club went out for German, but the conversations mostly revolved around how great it was to have thumbs.

And that's everything! Enjoy your weekend, especially if you're doing the Three Minute Dates tomorrow night.

Weather & Storms, Friday, Second Period

The students would once again find themselves in the classroom in the danger shop, with the storm still raging outside. This time, a map was projected on the whiteboard.

"There is a saying," Thor began. "'Off the coast of' whichever country you like, China is often used, 'a butterfly flaps its wings. On the other side of the world, there is a mighty hurricane.' It is meant to show cause and effect, how everything is interconnected and a small action may lead to tremendous consequences. It is also, to a certain extent, true."

He picked Mjolnir up off the desk, flipped it in the air and caught it reversed, so that he could use the handle to point to the orange blob on the map. "Scientists are currently monitoring this tropical wave, a collection of disorganized rain showers and thunderstorms, off the coast of Africa. Due to warm ocean temperatures and other conditions, they estimate there is a forty percent chance it will come together into a cyclone in the next week, a tropical depression which may then become a tropical storm, which may then become a mighty hurricane--or it may not. This season has been unusually quiet so far." Knock on wood. "And why is that?"

Thor pointed Mjolnir's handle at Africa on the map. "Among other reasons, dust. Windstorms in the vast Sahara desert have blown dust out over the seas, and when they meet these tropical waves, the dust weighs them down and chokes them out. A mighty storm, a great devastation...undone by a grain of sand." Thor considered the map for another moment, then turned to his students. "If you have any thoughts on this, I would be interested to hear them."

Plant Parenthood; Friday [09/12].

Eleanor had been distracted and thoughtful ever since her conversation with Erasmus on Wednesday, her mind an absolute whirlwind of thought on whether or not he'd be able to help her with Rhys. The way he described it to her, it sounded like what he did might be more in line for what she needed than what Miss Vess did, and it was most exciting and nervewracking having this new prospect. She could be wrong, of course. She was usually wrong about things, and she was trying to figure out how to explain it to him without having to reveal too much. The idea of explaining what she was to someone she barely even knew was a harrowing prospect, but she also owed it to Rhys, to Luma, to her entire family, to try everything she possibly could to right the wrongs she'd done.

(Everything that happened was because you were trying to help, though)

That thought, she shoved back behind the others. Maybe it wouldn't even be a big deal to Erasmus, anyway. It's so nice to meet someone from a world that's at least kind of like mine, he'd said, so maybe he'd understand....

It was hard to focus on work. And even though her grandmother had always told her that magic really was at least half just figuring out what people wanted to happen, she was turning to her tarot cards again. After all, they had set her right when she'd consulted them in regards to her doubts with Kamala; maybe they'd give her guidance now, as well. And, really, when it came to magic, wasn't it also important if you yourself believed it, too, at least a little bit?

So she shuffled the deck. She split it. She shuffled it again, and then spread the cards out before her. Selected six and carefully pushed aside the remainders, before turning over the first card with bated breath.

Temperance.

A time for calm, careful control. Made sense. She continued on. Death, Justice, the Hierophant -- her breath caught a little, on that one -- the Hanged Man, and, finally, the Lovers.

Which was a confusing conclusion for a string of cards that made all too much sense; for the most part, all signs seemed to point to it being a worthy pursuit.

So then why did she still feel so uncertain and unsure?

Plant Parenthood is open!

Physics were back to normal for class this week, but that was good. Because the danger shop was done up like a bumper car course. And physics were important for this one,

"Welcome back," Jane said with a tight smile. "Glad to see you all made it through last week."

"We hope all learnt a valuable lesson about steering through difficult terrain," Cara said. "Today's class could be considered an extension of that." Whether it should was another question.

"And avoiding danger in a safe, controlled way," Jane said like anyone could resist slamming into another bumper car while driving one.

"And recovering from unexpected events." Like a bumper car slamming into yours.

Well, everyone seemed to have thumbs today, so that was definitely a better start than last week. "Hello, everyone!" Steve said cheerfully. "Welcome back to baking!"

"We all have thumbs again!" That was the important thing to celebrate here. "And with that we'll be working on cookies."

"I love cookies," Steve said with a grin. "But first, we need to see the cakes you've brought in that you baked once you had thumbs again!"

The best kind of cake.

"So, let's get to that and then we'll let you know what your other bakes are this week," Tony said.

WTFH - Fandom Radio [Thurs, September 11th]

No, I don't need a furry lectern today. You can see I have thumbs, again.

*chittering*

Yes. It was very thoughtful to offer.

Up at the School, Space Pirates, Pirates in Space had a movie day, and apparently it was very important to not that they were watching a different movie this time. Health Education talked about vaccines and why you should get them, while in the Library, Arden went through pictures on her phone.

Over in the Dorms-

*excited porg noises*

Erasmus was in the Second Floor Common Room, trying to find something to watch and discovering about how food delivery works here. Luckily, Eleanor, Henry, Riri, and Luma, appeared out of the woodwork to help dispose of the food and discuss differences between where they all came from.

Over in Town, Adrian was coping with coffee at Pick Your Posion, Rey came by bearing pastries, Lydia also visited, and Pam tried to get in on that coffee action. At Over Easy, both Gray and Arden "besmirsched the honour" of the pumpkin spice latte, while at Wellspring Arms, Sabine had a 'murley' only in all caps with what I suspect are far too many added vowels and several exclamation marks. Things were their normal level of not-normal at the Trooper Station, which I suspect also included Steve's sandwich tossing.

Pixie Dust; Thursday [09/11].

Luma was, of course, working on redoing her nails after absolutely ruining them with a run through the woods as a wolf yesterday; she was, like the store itself, leaning into some autumnal colors, which inadvertently lead her nails to look like little candy corns. She wasn't entirely familiar with candy corn, she just thought the colors looked nice together, tilting her head as she held out her hand to observe her...well, handiwork.

And when one of the other employees asked for help unpacking a box of lightknit sweaters for one of the tables, she was so, so, so, so sad to inform them that she couldn't do anything for at least ten more minutes while the nail polish was drying.

And that's when the first glimmer of suspicion that Luma's obsessive nailpainting at work wasn't just vanity started to shine...

Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse, Thursday, Per 3

Class had been instructed to meet in the Danger Shop for the remainder of the semester, though when they walked in, they'd see it was set to the 'standard classroom' configuration. In fact, Liliana had no plans that required the Danger Shop at all today, but her planned classes included a mix of lectures and practical 'experiences.' And since it would be very obvious what type of class she had planned if they only ever met in the Danger Shop on practical days, they'd be meeting in the Danger Shop regardless of what type of class was on the agenda.

"Welcome back," Liliana said once class had begun. "We deviated from tradition last week by not having introductions--" which she generally considered a waste of class time anyway "--because it would have done us no good to attempt to affix names to faces when we all looked like ponies. Which means we're doing them this week. Please state your name, a useful skill set you believe you would bring to a post-apocalyptic community, and at least one way that either media or your own experience has taught you to kill, avoid, or fend off zombies. As I will then be explaining whether or not that course of action would be effective, at least against my types of ghouls, I would highly encourage you all to listen to one another's introductions. I'll give you this one for free, though: shooting a zombie in the brain? Isn't going to stop a single one."

Once that fun little round robin of class interaction was over, Liliana continued her lecture. "Today, we're going to be discussing the structure of the class. As was mentioned last week, this class is going to be more of a hands-on approach to surviving a post-apocalyptic scenario, one that involved an uprising of the undead. In it, you will be given different scenarios and objectives, and then it will be up to your various skills, tactics, and planning to survive. Hopefully, through these classes, you will either develop or further hone your ability to think quickly, to be decisive, to adapt, to communicate, and to cooperate. As this is a post-zombie apocalypse, zombies will likely be present as an environmental hazard if nothing else, adding additional obstacles and time pressures. That being said, the focus of the class is primarily "how can I and possibly others survive?" not "how can I fix this whole scenario?" I'm not saying you won't have opportunities to end the zombie menace, at least for the duration of a class period, but I would advise you not to expect them." But it did sometimes make for an important friction point: attempt the sure thing that will increase your odds of survival, or attempt the very risky thing that may solve everything...or may leave you in an even more precarious position than you were in before.

"Now, a note about powers. Some of you have them. Some of you have powers that are particularly useful for this type of class even, even. I am not going to forbid you from using them. I am however, going to institute a rule that you are not allowed to use your powers on behalf of anybody else. Your powers can serve you and you alone. If what you're going to do will directly benefit anybody beyond yourself, do not do it. I am not intending to hamstring teamwork, but I want you all to get a better idea of what you, personally, are capable of.

"Honestly, if this were a real post-apocalyptic scenario, the smartest thing to do would be to have Summer use her portal gun to get you off the island, or, say, have Illyana teleport necessary supplies back to survivors. And, if there is a real emergency and you don't take the fastest option to remove yourself to safety and die to stupid heroics instead, I will be very cross with you and will give genuine consideration to raising you back up long enough to blister your ears with a lecture." Was she looking very hard at one Mr. Jonathan Sims at that? If he was present, then yes she absolutely was.

"But, as tactically sound as those options are, they don't actually teach anything. We are simulating dangerous situations now so that if you find yourself in real danger in the future, you have better odds of surviving, even if you don't have access to helpful magics or advanced technology. It is for that reason that I'm also suggesting people with powers minimize usage even on their own behalf, at least if you are trained and confident in them. Again, that isn't something I will be enforcing, nor will it have an effect on your grade, but this is an opportunity to learn, which means trying things you are not already proficient at. I will be much less impressed by someone who can breeze through a scenario because they have the right combination of gadgets, powers, and/or technology than by someone who failed it, but demonstrated creativity, effort, or learning. Any questions?"

Fandom Island Museum, Thursday Daytime

What had originally been intended to be a few days back in London had turned much longer when Khonshu had a request for his avatars to fulfill.

Well, all right. A request he wanted Marc to fulfill but Steven was part of the deal now and Khonshu could choke on it.

That had kept them all, Llewellyn included, away until yesterday evening. Which meant, between unpacking and making sure Midnight was all right, there'd been no time to catch up on what had happened while they'd been away. Such as why there were stray piles of glitter in the Museum lobby. Or why there was some sort of orange? Yellow? Originally a... fruit? Maybe? Rotted goop that had appeared in one of the previously empty displays in the museum's lower floor. Or the very clearly - which in and of itself was frankly suspicious - brand new and healthy tomato plant that had sprung up in the middle of the artwork upstairs.

Blathers was able to fill Steven in that he was pretty sure the glitter was leftover from the chaos of the previous week. The rest was anyone's guess. After some gentle questioning Blathers and Steven felt at least somewhat confident that the tomato plant wasn't an island resident having a day of it. But even so to be on the safe side they decided to leave the strangeness be. Hopefully whatever made these things appear would make them disappear as needed. No matter how tempting it was to try the tomatoes.

The glitter, on the other hand, had a known origin. So once Blathers went to bed for the day, Steven was left with a broom and dustpan to do the best he could to try to get rid of it.

Impossible to succeed, of course, but Steven gave it a go all the same. At least it kept him in the lobby and easily available to any visitors who stopped by.

[Sometimes real life provides Fandom inspiration. Anyway, open! Steven and Harley conversation NFB please.]
